The Red Wolves’ shooting stars are All-Americans.

Indiana University East junior gaurd Marcus Isaac (Indianapolis, Ind./Purdue University North Central) is a first-team NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball All-American, and sophomore guard Matt Trimnell (Seymour, Ind./Seymour High School) is an honorable mention All-American.

The NAIA announced its NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball All-Americans on March 14. Isaac was one of 10 players on the first team. A total of 59 players made the All-America lists.

Isaac is the first Red Wolf to earn first-team NAIA All-America honors in any sport. Isaac and Trimnell join Tyler Rigby as the only IU East basketball All-Americans. Rigby was an honorable mention selection in 2010.

“It’s a tremendous accomplishment for both of them,” said IU East coach Mark Hester. “It speaks volumes to the level of our team, that we can have two All-Americans in one year when in the four previous years we only had one All-America player, total.”

“It shows we are progressing not only with the caliber of players we have but also the caliber of the whole team.”

Isaac was one of the most efficient shooters in the NAIA Division II. He finished the season among the national leaders in points per game (23rd with 19.0), free throw percentage (second at .894), 3-point field goal percentage (sixth at .467) and overall field goal percentage (31st at .543).

Isaac already was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

“It’s a great feeling, but like I’ve said before, I can’t do anything without my teammates,” Isaac said. “It is good to represent the school and bring an honor like that back.”

“My main focus now is to win a championship for the school. Getting to the national tournament is not enough. Next year we want to accomplish a lot more, not only as individuals but as a team.”

Trimnell also was one of the top shots in the nation. He also ranked among the national leaders in points per game (39th with 17.5) and free throw percentage (33rd at .811).

Isaac and Trimnell helped IU East to a 24-8 record and a return trip to the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship. The Red Wolves set an NAIA school record for wins in a season.

Jonathan Dunn of national runner-up Northwood (Fla.) was named national player of the year.
