Class of 2020 by the numbers

The Class of 2020 will receive 853 diplomas from Indiana University East. The campus will celebrate the achievements of graduates with a virtual Graduation Celebration on Friday, May 15, that will take place throughout the day on IU East and Indiana University social media platforms.

While Indiana University has postponed the May Commencement Ceremonies because of COVID-19, the university hopes to hold a live commencement in the future and plans are being developed. In the meantime, the virtual Graduation Celebration will be held for each IU campus on its originally scheduled day for the Commencement Ceremony; for IU East that date is May 15th.

Graduates are invited to share their cap and gown photos, and unique celebrations from their home. Members of the Class of 2020 can get details on how to participate in the Graduation Celebration at iue.edu/commencement.

Graduates and their families are invited to share their virtual celebrations with IU East on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using the hashtags #IUEGrad20, #iueast and #PackStrong.

The Class of 2020 has several characteristics.

Of the 853 diplomas, 780 are bachelor’s degrees and 73 are master’s degrees.

Of the total number of graduates, there are 65 Indiana counties represented, 33 states and 19 countries.

A brief glance at the statistics and figures provides a look at the graduates joining more than 10,000 IU East alumni.

  • Minorities represented: 10.7 percent
  • The oldest student graduating is 72, the youngest is 16.
  • The most numerous degree to be granted is the B.S. in Business Administration online (114).
  • The second most frequent degree to be granted is the B.S. in Business Administration (105).
  • First generation students: 36.6 percent.

If sorting graduates by age, those who are 23 and younger compose 26.1 percent of the Class of 2020. Graduates ages 23-29 represent 37.5 percent of the class while those 30 and over compose 36.4 percent. Within the Class of 2020, 33 undergraduate students earned a 4.0 GPA.
