Area business leaders and guests are invited to attend the annual Indiana University Business Outlook Forum presented by Indiana University East and the IU Kelley School of Business as well as the IU East Alumni Association and the Eastern Indiana Chapter of the IU Alumni Association.

The Business Outlook Forum for 2010 will be held on Tuesday, November 10, in Vivian Auditorium, located in Whitewater Hall on the IU East campus. Breakfast and networking begin at 7:30 a.m. and discussion led by the panel will follow at 8 a.m. The forum ends at 9 a.m. The cost to attend is $15.

For more than three decades, the Kelley School of Business has presented its national, state and local forecasts through a series of presentations in Indiana cities. As in the past, this year’s panelists will offer perspectives on the global, national and state economies and financial markets.

The starting point for the forecast is the Econometric Model of the United States, developed by IU’s Center for Econometric Model Research, which analyzes numerous statistics to develop a national forecast for the coming year. The center’s Econometric Model of Indiana provides a corresponding forecast of where the state’s economy is headed. The Business Outlook Panel then adjusts the forecast to reflect additional insights it has on the economic situation.

Panelists will focus their conversation on topics relevant to the economy for 2010. Panelists include Jerry Conover, director of the Indiana Business Research Center Indiana University Kelley School of Business; Kyle Anderson, visiting assistant professor of business economics at the IU Kelly School of Business in Indianapolis; John A. Boquist, the Edward E. Edwards Professor of Finance in the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University; and Tim Rogers, President/CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County. David Frantz, dean for the IU East School of Business and Economics and associate professor of management, will moderate the event.

Conover has been an active participant in research and economic development activities for many years, Conover is past president of the national Association for University Business and Economic Research. Under his leadership, the IBRC focuses on economic, workforce and demographic analysis of Indiana, its communities, and the rest of the nation. The center’s Stats Indiana Web site for economic and demographic data is widely used by organizations throughout Indiana, and the center provides technical assistance to federal agencies to support economic development programs nationally. The IBRC also provides analysis and strategic planning assistance to state and regional economic development organizations, and the center leads the Information for Indiana initiative to provide better data to inform Hoosier policy decisions.

Tim Rogers, President/CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County, joined the EDC January 31, 2009. He previously was the vice president for business development at the Greater Springfield (Ill.) Chamber of Commerce, where he was responsible for the Quantum Growth Initiative.

Anderson’s research focuses on pricing, auctions, and online markets, and he has published several articles in academic journals. He has an M.B.A. and Ph.D. from the Kelley School of Business in Bloomington. In addition to his academic work, he has seven years experience in the health care industry and the heavy trucking industry.

Boquist is an expert in the areas of corporation finance, financial strategy and analysis, banking and investments. He was the Project Director of a USAID grant to help managers and faculty members from Poland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic make the transition from a command economy to a market economy. He is an experienced teacher, researcher, consultant and administrator. Boquist has been a regular visiting faculty member at INSEAD since 1991. In 1994 he was recognized by Business Week magazine as one of the top 12 business school professors.

Boquist is the co-author of The Value Sphere, a book dedicated to creating and retaining shareholder value, and numerous research articles and papers. He is a frequent participant in national professional meetings as a paper presenter, as a paper discussant and as a session chair. He also serves as a consultant in the areas of corporate finance, policy and strategy, public utility regulation and litigation testimony. He is extensively involved in executive education programs throughout the world. He holds an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from General Motors Institute and a M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Purdue University.
