Danielle Peckinpaugh and Tyler Johnson have been chosen as the 2012 Lingle Scholars. The scholarship award will continue throughout their pursuit of a four-year degree at Indiana University East.

Both graduated in June 2012 and are freshmen at IU East this fall. Peckinpaugh is a graduate of Lincoln High School and Johnson is a graduate of Northeastern High School.

Peckinpaugh will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at IU East. She is the daughter of Jim and Susan Peckinpaugh, of Cambridge City, Ind.

While at Lincoln High School, Peckinpaugh was a member of the National Honor Society and was involved in cheerleading and participated in recreational softball. She also worked part time and volunteered for local charities.

Johnson is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities with a concentration in music. He is the son of Joyce and Anthony Johnson of Fountain City.

While in high school, Johnson was a member of his high school marching band and he plays the guitar and sings. He also enjoys calculus, chemistry and history. This summer, Johnson traveled to Port-au-Prince, Haiti as part of a mission with Christ United Church.

The Lingle Scholar award was established by Paul and Pat Lingle in 2005 in order to keep the best and brightest youth in Wayne County.

The scholarship is given to an incoming freshman student who has also been accepted to the IU East Honors Program, an academic program that provides an intellectually enriched curriculum for highly motivated students. Applicants must undergo an interview process with the Honors Program committee as well as with the Lingles.

Recipients receive a $2,000 annual scholarship over four years.
