As the dean of students, Jarecki will assist students in all aspects of their college careers, ensuring access to needed resources, and facilitating the resolution of challenges students may encounter, both academic and non-academic.

Jarecki began her career at IU East in January 2010 as the disability services coordinator. Currently, she is the associate director of Financial Aid and Scholarships at IU East. In that role, she counsels students and families concerning financial aid procedures, programs, and policies, as well as, determines students’ eligibility for scholarships and Title IV programs.

Michelle Malott, executive vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, said Jarecki truly cares about students and has a strong commitment to their success at IU East.

“Amy’s experience working with students and families in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, her collaborative experiences with multiple offices on campus, and her ability to address issues in a fair and impartial manner are some of the many strengths she brings to this position,” Malott said. “I am looking forward to her continued good work on our campus in her new role as dean of students.”

Malott added that she expresses her gratitude to Oniffe Grizzle, director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and chair of the search committee, and the members of the search committee for their excellent work on this important search.

In addition to her work in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Jarecki has previously held positions at IU East with the Twenty-first Century Scholars Program, Student Support Services, and the former Area 9 Agency.

“I am honored to serve as dean of students at Indiana University East,” Jarecki said. “The relationships I have developed with students, faculty, staff and the community drive my passion to create environments where students can be challenged academically while feeling supported as they navigate the role of being a student, in addition to their other life responsibilities.”

The dean of students is responsible for overseeing the student judicial conduct process, participating in decisions regarding satisfactory academic progress for students, providing guidance for students seeking to pursue academic or non-academic grievances, reviewing student conduct cases and determining discipline as necessary, and to act as a liaison for students. The dean of students also participates on campus committees and develops innovative ways to provide support as needed to students in online programs offered through IU East and through IU Online.

“My approach to the dean of students role is one of HOPE: a Holistic approach to Opportunity, Purpose, and Education. This overarching principle is the lens through which I gather data and information to make decisions and policies which reduce barriers and promote student success in both the on-campus and online environments,” Jarecki said.

Jarecki received her Master of Occupational Therapy from the University of Indianapolis and her Juris Doctor from Indiana University School of Law and her Bachelor of Science in Management from Indiana University.
