Indiana University East welcomes community supporters to the Spirit of Philanthropy Luncheon to thank these individuals for their contributions to scholarships, internships, leadership experiences and community service opportunities for students. The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, at Forest Hills Country Club in Richmond.

The event raises funds for scholarships and other community involvement activities that provide important experiential learning opportunities for students.

The keynote speaker is Peter Kageyama, author of For the Love of Cities: The Love Affair Between People and Their Places, and IU East’s “One Book, Many Voices” project featured book this year. Kageyama is also speaking at IU East at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, in Vivian Auditorium.

Stephanie Hays-Mussoni, director of Gift Development, said community supporters are instrumental to the overall educational experience and success of IU East students.

“The Spirit of Philanthropy Luncheon is a great time to bring our donors and community partners together with our students, and in return they learn the impact that being a partner with IU East has on students. It is our way to say thank you to those who support IU East and our students,” Hays-Mussoni said.

Kageyama is the co-founder and producer of the Creative Cities Summit, an interdisciplinary event that brings together citizens and practitioners around the big idea of the city. Kageyama is the former President of Creative Tampa Bay, a grassroots community change organization. He has spoken all over the world about bottom up community development and the amazing people that are making change happen.

Kageyama’s visit to Richmond is the featured event of the “One Book, Many Voices” project at IU East. The mission of the project is to foster a campus and community discussion about themes in and ideas inspired by the selected text, For the Love of Cities. The book focuses on learning to “love,” contribute to, and talk about our cities in a new way and we think the book will help further our conversation about what makes our community stellar.

All guests will receive a complimentary copy of For the Love of Cities.
