IU East celebrates Spirit of Philanthropy

October 5, 2012 |

Indiana University East welcomes community supporters to the Spirit of Philanthropy Luncheon to thank these individuals for their contributions to scholarships, internships, leadership experiences and community service opportunities for students. The luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17, at Forest Hills Country Club in Richmond. The event raises funds for scholarships and other community involvement experiences that provide important skill-building experiences for students.

The keynote speaker is Dave Isay, founder of StoryCorps and the recipient of numerous broadcasting honors, including six Peabody Awards and a MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship.

Stephanie Hays-Mussoni, director of Gift Development, said community supporters are instrumental to the overall educational experience and success of IU East students.

“The Spirit of Philanthropy Luncheon connects students with community members who are dedicated to making a difference in the world through their time, talent, and treasure. These community leaders are a shining example of what IU East students strive to become,” Hays-Mussoni said.

Isay’s visit to Richmond is the featured event of the “One Book, Many Voices” project launched and coordinated by IU East. The mission of the project is to foster a campus and community discussion about themes in and ideas inspired by the selected text, Listening Is an Act of Love, in an effort to develop camaraderie, inform knowledge, and inspire action towards positive civic engagement and improvement.

Isay is the author/editor of numerous books that grew out of his public radio documentary work, including three Story Corps books: Listening Is an Act of Love (2007), Mom: A Celebration of Mothers from StoryCorps (2010), and All There Is: Love Stories from StoryCorps (2012) — all New York Times bestsellers.

All guests will receive a complimentary copy of Isay’s book, Listening is an Act of Love.

Sponsors for the Spirit of Philanthropy Luncheon are West End Bank, Richmond Baking Company, First Bank Richmond, Whitewater Broadcasting, Milestone Contractors, Dot Foods and Mound Printing.

The cost to attend the luncheon is $50 per ticket. To RSVP or for information on sponsorship opportunities, contact Stephanie Hays-Mussoni, director of Gift Development, at (765) 973-8331 or email shaysmus@iue.edu.
