IU East Center for Leadership Development hosts two upcoming workshops

April 29, 2011 |

The Indiana University East Center for Leadership Development will host two workshops in May.

The first workshop, “Becoming an Employer of Choice: Creating a High Engagement Workplace,” will be held on Thursday, May 5. The workshop begins at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and informal networking followed by the presentation from 8 a.m. to noon. The workshop will be held in the Whitewater Hall Community Room.

“Becoming an Employer of Choice: Creating a High Engagement Workplace” will be presented by Fredricka F. Joyner, associate professor of business administration and organization behavior at IU East.

The topics of the workshop include:

  • The Competitive Environment is Changing – In today’s highly competitive employment world, workers have more choices about where and how they work.
  • The Workforce is Changing in Size and Values – The workforce is quickly changing, as “Baby Boomers” move out and “Generation Xers” and the “Millennials” move in. It is anticipated that by 2030 there may be 20 percent more jobs than workers in the US. The “Xers” and the “Millennials” think differently about their careers – they “live first, work second.”
  • Becoming an Employer of Choice is a Competitive Advantage – Due to the shrinking employment-age population and shifting values, organizations must strategize to attract top talent and becoming an Employer of Choice has become a key competitive advantage.

This workshop will:

  • Build the business case for becoming an Employer of Choice.
  • Explore several Employer of Choice frameworks.
  • Discuss how organizations are developing capabilities in this area.
  • Help you develop an Employer of Choice action plan.

The second workshop will be held Thursday, May 19. The workshop begins at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and informal networking followed by the presentation from 8 a.m. to noon. The workshop will be held in the Whitewater Hall Community Room.

“Leadership for the New Normal:  How does who you are stack up against what you need to do to succeed in the “New Normal?” will be presented by Heather Haas, vice president and chief operating officer for ADVISA.

The topics of the workshop include:

  • The World is Changing and a New Normal is Emerging – Three leadership challenges characterize “the new normal”: managing complex and rapid change, making decisions amidst a climate of uncertainty, and standing out in a hyper-competitive marketplace.
  • Individuals Need to Focus on Self-Development to Meet the New
  • Leadership Challenges – Personality impacts our ability to stand up to the demands of the new normal, and we bring distinct strengths and leadership assets to the table. Increasing self awareness with a tool like the Predictive Index® can be critical to long-term success and well being. The Predictive Index® is included in the workshop fee.

This workshop will:

  • Explore your leadership strengths and assets through the lens of the Predictive Index® profile.
  • Address four catalytic questions that can help you move forward with confidence and purpose.
  • Provide a framework to meet leadership challenges and realize success in your work.

The cost is $79 per person for each workshop. Attendants should bring the payment with them on the day of the workshop. Please register online at iue.edu/leadership as space is limited.
