Jerry Wilde is the new dean of the Indiana University East School of Education, beginning January 4, 2016.

Wilde has been the interim dean since July 2014 while he also continued to serve as a professor of educational psychology. He joined IU East in 1998.

“Jerry brings with him many outstanding qualities to the role as dean. He is familiar with the campus and the faculty as well as the trends and innovations that will help prepare our student teachers as they head into the workforce. We are delighted to welcome Jerry as the dean of the School of Education,” said IU East Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe.

The dean of the School of Education has administrative responsibility for all aspects of the school, including faculty recruitment, development and evaluation; program development, assessment and improvement; student recruitment, retention and success; budget management and fundraising; and all other matters related to the continuous well-being of the school and its faculty, staff and students.

“I am humbled to assume the role of Dean of the School of Education for Indiana University East. I have the privilege of leading an amazing group of faculty and staff. The fact that our enrollments have been growing when virtually all other education programs across the state have been declining is really a testament to their dedication and hard work,” Wilde said.

Wilde has received several awards while a member of the faculty on campus including the 2012 Chancellor’s Faculty Award and the Excellence in Research in 2009 among other honors. Wilde has published several books, chapters and journal articles. His most recent book, Hot stuff to help kids: A guide for angry, anxious, or stressed students, was published in 2015. He has also presented at national conferences for social work, family and social services, and children’s behaviors.

Wilde received his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with emphasis in Developmental Neurolinguistics from Marquette University. He received his Ed.S. from the University of Northern Iowa and his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Business Management from Luther College.
