IU East to offer mathematics degree online

Indiana University East is now offering an online degree completion program for a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics.

Currently, three bachelor degree completion programs are offered online including Business Administration, Communication Studies, and English-Technical and Professional Writing.

Students who have their general education courses completed can receive any of these attractive B.A. degrees online in two years.

“One of the strengths of our new program is its flexibility,” said Dean of the school of Natural Science and Mathematics Kumara Jayasuriya. “Students may complete this degree in two years or less and do so mostly from their personal or laptop computers, at home or at work, while still taking advantage of all the services available on the campus.”

The program is taught by award winning faculty who are passionate about teaching and research. The school’s comprehensive online mathematics program begins with common core courses, which includes calculus, and follows with a concentration in pure and/or applied mathematics. This program provides students a solid foundation for graduate schools or other math related professions, such as actuarial science or an M.A.T. in mathematics.

The Higher Learning Commission approved the program in late August.

Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Larry Richards explains that IU East has continued to develop its online degree completion programs as enrollment on campus has continued to increase. “Online courses not only provide students with greater flexibility, they also help us alleviate some of the space constraints we experience on campus as enrollment grows.”

Credit hours taken online continue to grow at unprecedented rates, with a quarter of all courses taught at IU East now offered in that format.
