Join Indiana University East for a night at the Wayne County 4-H Fair from 5 p.m. to close Thursday, June 25 for “KnowHow2Go to College Day.”

IU East will be at the “Kids to College” tent with Indiana’s College Success Coalition, a group working to rally and connect individuals and organizations willing to help more students get to and complete college.

Admissions officers from IU East, Ivy Tech Community College, Purdue University College of Technology, Earlham College, Communities in Schools of Wayne County, and Twenty-first Century Scholars will be available to answer questions about the process of getting to college.

The Wayne County 4-H Fair Committee and the Wayne County Foundation have provided support for the booth.

“The coalition’s goal is to raise awareness of higher education in the area and the importance of earning a degree,” said Liz Ferris, coordinator of Twenty-first Century Scholars. “The admissions officers will be available to answer questions about how to prepare for college.”

The” KnowHow2GoIndiana” campaign has a four-step process for middle and high school students to help prepare for college.  The coalition recommends finding a caring adult, pushing yourself, finding the right fit and putting your hands on some cash. Information about the campaign will be handed out at the event. Twenty-first Century Scholar applications will be available for 2008/2009 sixth to eighth graders. The deadline for eighth graders to sign up for the program is June 30, 2009.

The coalition will have hourly prize drawings, giveaways and vendor coupons.

College students will be admitted to the Wayne County Fair for free with their college identification card on Thursday, June 25.
