Indiana University East is pleased to welcome nine new faculty members to campus this fall.

Hong Chen

School of Business and Economics
Hong Chen, assistant professor of informatics, received her Ph.D. in Information Technology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She received her Master of Arts in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Tianjin University in Tianjin, China, and her Bachelor of Arts in Computer Information Management from Hebei University in Baoding, China.

Previously she was a teaching assistant in the Department of Information Technology & Decision Science at Old Dominion University. She has also been the human resource manager for China Unicom. She also worked as a marketing manager and system analyst for China Telecom.

Her research interests include information systems, cybersecurity, big data, database management, data mining, data analytics, business intelligence, cloud computing and cyber-physical system.

Chen has published articles in Library Hi Tech, the Journal of Industrial Integration and Management, the Journal of Industrial Integration and Management and the Journal of Management Analytics.

She is a member of the Association for Information Systems and the Decision Science Institute.

Yan Liu

Yan Liu, assistant professor of business administration and management, received her Doctor of Business Administration and her Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. She received her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from NanChang University in Nanchang, China.

Previously she was an assistant professor at West Virginia University Institute of Technology in Beckley, West Virginia. Formerly she was an online professor for Northcentral University School of Business in Prescott Valley, Arizona, and an adjunct professor for the College of Business and Technology at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She has also been an assistant professor in the Division of Business and Technology at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, and the College of Business and Management at United States University in Chula Vista, California.

Her research interests include positive organizational behavior, leadership, proactive behavior, deviance behavior, human resource practice and research methodology.

Liu has published articles most recently in Personality and Individual Differences, Leadership & Organization Development Journal and Journal of Business Strategies.

She is a member of the Academy of Management, Society of Human Resource Management, Southern Management Association, Southwest Academy of Management and the Midwest Academy of Management.

Nathan Froebe

School of Humanities and Social Sciences
Nathan Froebe, visiting assistant professor of music and Pep Band director, received his Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Wisconsin-Madison in Madison, Wisconsin. He received his Master of Liberal Studies in Music Composition from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. He received his Bachelor of Music Education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Previously he taught music at The Villages Charter High School in The Villages, Florida. Formerly he was a teaching assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Fort Hays. He also taught music for the Pike Valley School District and Osage County School District.

He has performed most recently at the New Music on the Bayou in Monroe, Louisiana, and the SCI Region VI 2019 Conference in Commerce, Texas. He recently finished a new composition, Symphony No.1 – Arc of the Rainbow for Wind Ensemble for the UW-Madison Wind Ensemble, and has also composed for the SATB Saxophone Quartet and SATB Choir, Virbaphone and Marimba.

Danielle Halliwell

Danielle Halliwell, assistant professor of communication studies, received her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. She received her Master of Arts in Interpersonal Communication and Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Previously she was an assistant professor for the Department of Communication Studies at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Formerly she was an adjunct instructor for the Department of Social Sciences at Central Methodist University and a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Missouri and University of Cincinnati.

Her research interests include communicative-sense making during times of relational disruption and change, the role technology plays in interpersonal relationships and communication in online support groups.

Halliwell has published articles most recently in the Journal of Applied Communication Research, Journal of Family Communication and Western Journal of Communication.

Nayeong Kong

School of Natural Science and Mathematics
Nayeong Kong, assistant professor of mathematics, received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She received a doctorate, master’s and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Pusan National University in Pusan, South Korea.

Previously she was a graduate teaching assistant at Temple and Pusan. She formerly taught middle school and high school mathematics at Sila Middle School in Pusan.

Kong’s research interests include probability, random matrix theory and random graph theory.

Markus Pomper

Markus Pomper, visiting associate professor of mathematics, received his Ph.D. and his Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Previously, he was the dean of Mathematics and Science at Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee. Formerly he was an associate professor of mathematics and department chair at IU East. Before joining IU East, he was a research assistant and visiting management methods analyst at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Pomper’s research interests include Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in the online environment and co-requisite learning support, and development.

He has published an articles most recently in the Journal of General Education, Mycologia, and International Journal of Instructional Technology and Distance Learning.

Jill Schweitzer

Jill Schweitzer, visiting assistant professor of biology and biochemistry, received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. She received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana.

Previously she was an adjunct professor at IU East and Bethany Theological Seminary. She has also taught sixth-grade math at Dennis Middle School.

Her research interests include molecular and cellular biology, membrane trafficking and cell division.

Schweitzer has published articles most recently in Seminars in Cell & Developmental Biology and PLoS ONE.

Lindsey Blanton

School of Nursing and Health Sciences
Lindsey Blanton, lecturer in nursing, received her Master of Science in Nursing Education and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from IU East. She received her Associates of Science in Nursing and Technical Certificate from Ivy Tech Community College in Richmond.

Previously she was a Kaplan NCLEX Test Prep Educator and student teacher at IU East. She been an LPN at Friends Fellowship Community and Reid Health, and she was an RN at Reid.

Blanton is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society.

Katherine Wadsworth

Katherine Wadsworth, lecturer in nursing, received her Master of Science in Nursing Education and her Bachelor of

Science in Nursing from IU East. She completed her Associate of Science in Nursing from Excelsior College in Albany, New York, and her LPN from Ivy Tech Community College in Richmond.

Previously she was a visiting faculty member and an adjunct faculty member. She also formerly worked as a staff nurse at Fayette Regional Hospital, St. Vincent Randolph Hospital, Correctional Medical Services and Oakridge Rehab and Wound Care, and as the clinical education coordinator at Rosebud Village. She was also a staff nurse and MDS coordinator and ADNS at Golden Living Center.

Wadsworth is a member of Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society.
