Indiana University East will host its 46th Commencement Ceremony at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 12, at the Richmond High School Tiernan Center.

This year, the university will confer 811 baccalaureate degrees and 65 master’s degrees. The number of degrees is a significant increase for IU East and marks the university’s highest number of graduates in a given year. IU East will also present its 10,000th diploma during the ceremony.

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie and IU East Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe will preside and address the 876 graduates eligible to receive IU degrees during the ceremony. The figures include degree recipients from December 2016 and candidates for May, June and August 2017.

The ceremony will be broadcast via live stream video at iue.edu/live. The website also includes live commencement updates and commentary via Facebook and Twitter, with the hashtags #iueast and #iue2017. Richmond residents can also watch the ceremony live on WCTV Channel 20.

Aaron Dagres, Newark, Ohio, will address fellow classmates during the ceremony as the student speaker. Dagres, who will receive a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, was selected to address the 2017 class after auditioning for the honor.

Trevor Boram, Arcanum, Ohio, is the recipient of the Naomi Osborne Award, an honor given to the graduate with the highest grade point average, and will lead the graduating class during the alumni induction ceremony. Boram will receive his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and a minor in Biophysics. He will also receive a Certificate in Pure Mathematics, a Certificate in Applied Mathematics, and a Certificate in Laboratory Science.
