IU East’s Homecoming 2012 begins November 12

November 9, 2012 |

Indiana University East will host “Homecoming 2012: Red Wolves Rising” November 12-16. Alumni, friends and the campus community are invited to participate in the activities and events throughout the week.

Homecoming events are sponsored by the Alumni Association, Office of Campus Life, Student Activities Advisory Team, Student Government Association, and Students Today Alumni Tomorrow.

Homecoming 2012 begins at noon on November 12 with Monday Madness. Students will pick up their Homecoming t-shirts and enjoy an afternoon of music, food, and a variety of activities inside and outside the Springwood Hall Graf Center.

One of the most popular events during Homecoming is the Nearly Naked Mile. The fourth annual Nearly Naked Mile is at 4:30 p.m. on November 13 with registration at the Springwood Hall patio. Sponsored by the IU East Alumni Association, the student event raises donations for those in need, so a registration “fee” of one or more gently used items of clothing (such as coats, hats, or gloves) is required. Students participating receive a free Nearly Naked Mile t-shirt for the first 200 registrants. Prizes will be awarded for top Male and Female Finisher and also Best Costume.

Also that night, the IU East Alumni Association hosts author Ken Beckley. Beckley will talk about his first novel, Knuckleball: The Uncertainties of (a) Life, at 6 p.m. at the Richmond High School McConnell Room in the Tiernan Center. Knuckleball is an inspirational story of how one man learns to live through the unexpected and, in the end, discovers it is never too late to realize a dream. Beckley enjoyed a career in television news and served as executive vice president of H. H. Gregg as well as president and CEO of Indiana University’s Alumni Association. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Service Award from Indiana University and the Sagamore of the Wabash award from Governor Mitch Daniels.

Following Beckley’s discussion at the Tiernan Center is the men’s basketball game versus Union College at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13. The naming of the Homecoming Court will be held at halftime.

On Wednesday, students are invited to hear Comedian/Magician Michael Kent at 8 p.m. in Vivian Auditorium.

The Homecoming Bonfire and Pep Rally will be held at 7 p.m. November 15 near the Hayes Hall patio.

Homecoming 2012 will culminate on November 16 when the IU East Red Wolves play the IU Kokomo Cougars. The game begins at 7 p.m. at the Richmond High School Tiernan Center. During halftime, IU East will announce the Homecoming King and Queen. Rufus the Red Wolf will also celebrate his fifth birthday.
