IU East’s second annual Faculty Scholarship Celebration is March 22

Indiana University East will host its annual Faculty Scholarship Celebration from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, March 22, in the First Bank Richmond Community Room, located in Whitewater Hall. The campus and community is welcome to attend.

The celebration features IU East faculty who have been engaged in research, teaching exploration, or creative activity over the past year through sabbaticals, Summer Faculty Fellowships, the Faculty Research Support Fund, and other funding opportunities.

Faculty will present throughout the day during four different sessions. The schedule is:

Session One

  • Brian Brodeur, assistant professor of English, “Songs that Think, Stories that Sing: Hybrid Genres of Modern & Contemporary American Poetry.”
  • Denise Bullock, associate professor of sociology, “The (Un)Becoming Body: Management of Body/Gender/Identity for Trans, Gender Queer, and Gender Fluid Individuals.”
  • Parul Khurana, associate professor of biology, “Cell Imaging by Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy – Endless Possibilities.”
  • Carrie Mier, assistant professor of criminal justice, “The Beginnings of an Epidemic: Studying the Contagion effect behind Opioid Abuse in the Midwest.”
  • Tanya Perkins, assistant professor of English, “Summer Shorts: New and in-progress fictions.”

Session Two

  • Justin Carroll, associate professor of history, “Tshusick, an Ojibwa Woman, or There and Back Again, or an Empire of Liberty.”
  • Ann Kim, associate professor of fine arts, “Time Cycles, but Never Back to Now.”
  • Katherine Miller Wolf, assistant professor of anthropology, “Archaeological Research in Central America.”
  • Daron Olson, associate professor of European and World History, “Norwegians through Exile and Immigration.”

Session Three

  • Jay Barbre, director of Graduate and Transition to Teaching Programs for the School of Education, “Social Foundations in Education: Where are we now?”

  • Alisa Clapp-Itnyre, professor of English, and Jessica Raposo, assistant professor of music, “Children’s Victorian Song Camp 2017.”

Session Four
