Indiana University East’s continued growth has resulted in another semester of record-breaking enrollment. Student enrollment (3,725) has increased by 10.7 percent this fall semester, while student credit hours (36,590.5) increased 9.5 percent over last fall. Both figures are new record highs for the campus, breaking marks set last fall.

This fall’s percentage growth in enrollment and credit hours taken is once again the largest among all IU campuses.

Since 2006, IU East enrollment has increased dramatically with a 65.9 percent increase in number of students and a 68.7 percent increase in credit hours.

“This is truly remarkable,” said Chancellor Nasser Paydar.  “We have increased enrollment by nearly 1,500 students in the last four years.  Students seeking high-quality affordable baccalaureate education have made IU East their university of choice.”

This year’s group of new students (780) – including freshmen and transfers – is the largest in campus history.  Transfer students from Ivy Tech Community College and other community colleges and universities increased 21.0 percent.

“Our enrollment is growing while the quality of our student body has increased based on such measures as high school class rank and test scores. We are also retaining students at higher rates,” said Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Larry Richards.

Incoming new students with Academic Honors diplomas increased 12.2 percent. Teenagers comprise 92.2 percent of the new freshman class.

“The whole IU East campus has worked together to make this happen. The community and the region, and especially the students, are the beneficiaries of IU East’s success,” Richards said.

Enrollment figures are not official until approved by the president of Indiana University.
