Indiana University East Entrepreneurship Center will host economic educators from Romania today throughDecember 8. The National Council on Economic Education approved a proposal by Tim Scales, Entrepreneurship Center director, and director of the Center for Economic Education to participate as a host for the Study Tour on Economic Education in the United States.

Four individuals from Romania will arrive in Richmond on December 4, 2007. The guests include Cecilia Doina Bararu, Constanra, Romania, Maria Irina Dromereschi, Bacau, Romania, Laurenta Hacman, Suceava, Romania and Maria Tomoiu, Gorj, Romania.

Scales said the Romanians will visit local schools, businesses, civic events and participate in workshops throughout their visit to Richmond and Wayne County.

“It is a delight to have the opportunity to host international guest and to have the cause to share the many wonderful things our region has to offer in Economic Development and Education,” Scales said.

Cecilia Doina Bararu of Constanta, Romania, is a graduate of the NCEE Training of Trainers 2004-2005 program and the Training of Writers 2005-2006 program. She has also competed and placed in CREE’s “Best Lessons in Economics” national competition, as well as participated in various local training workshops for the Constanta Resource Center for Economic Education included the in-country Training-of-Trainers program. Cecilia is a founding member of her local center for economic education and is currently the Associate Manager as well as a Pedagogy Advisor at the School Inspectorate of the Constanta Country, for social studies.

Maria Irina Dromereschi of Bacau, Romania, is a graduate of the NCEE Training of Trainers 2005-2006 program and the Training of Writers 2006 -02007 program. Maria is a full-time teacher with Anghel Saligny Technical College where she teaches 10th and 11th grade Entrepreneurship Education. Maria is actively involved with the Romanian Council on Economic Education (CREE) as a local trainer for economic education programs and workshops. She has also competed and placed in CREE’s “Best Lessons in Economics” national competition. Maria is also a founding member of the local Center for Economic Education in Bacau.

Laurenta Hacman of Suceava, Romania is a graduate of the NCEE Training of Trainers 2005-2006 program. Laura has been an active member of CREE since 2004. She has been involved in many local programs and workshops as participant and lead trainer, with a highlight of placing 1st in the National Best Lesson competition for her lesson titled, “Financiary Placement – What can we do with our savings?” Currently, Laura is the Director of the Suceava Center in addition to her position as school inspector of social sciences for the county of Suceava.

Maria Tomoiu of Gorj, Romania, is a graduate of the NCEE Training of Trainers 2002-2003 program. Maria has participated in the NCEE Elementary School Workshop in Kiev, Ukraine in 2004 and the Training of Writers 2005-2006 program. She has been involved in many CREE programs and workshops as participant in the past and now as a lead trainer. Maria is the director of the Gorj Economic Education Resource Center and works in partnership with the local Center for Teacher Re-training.
