Indiana University East is hosting its 2009 Scholarship Luncheon to honor those who have donated to support scholarships at IU East and to recognize the recipients. The scholarship luncheon will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Forest Hills Country Club, 2169 S. 23rd St. in Richmond.

This year’s theme of the luncheon is “Invest in People.” 

“IU East has long awarded scholarships to both incoming and continuing students in recognition of their academic achievement, leadership and community service,” said Brindy Roosa, director of Gift Development. “IU East is grateful to the donors who have made it possible to help more students than ever before. Funding for scholarships is critical to supporting student access to education and enhancing opportunities for success.”

The net proceeds from the scholarship luncheon will benefit IU East’s general scholarship fund.

The keynote speaker is Matt Ferguson, President and CEO of CareerBuilder.com, the nation’s largest online job site with more than 23 million unique visitors and over 1 million jobs. Ferguson is an Indiana University alumnus.

Headquartered in Chicago, Ferguson leads the daily operations and growth of the company. Under Ferguson’s leadership, CareerBuilder.com has risen to the number one position in online recruitment with the company outpacing the industry in traffic, job postings and revenue growth. Ferguson is an employment expert who regularly appears on national TV and radio to discuss the state of the job market, hiring practices and workplace issues.

Ferguson first joined the company following CareerBuilder.com’s acquisition of Headhunter.net, where he had been serving as senior vice president of business development. Prior to that, Ferguson developed strategic partnerships for DigitalWork.com. He also started two entrepreneurial ventures and practiced law at Baker & McKenzie. Ferguson holds a master’s in business administration from the University of Chicago and a law degree from Northwestern University.
