The Indiana University East School of Nursing has received notice from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) Board of Commissioners that the Master of Science of Nursing program has received a five-year initial accreditation.

The ACEN visited the campus for its site review in November 2013. The ACEN identified strengths offered by the M.S.N. program at IU East including support by university administration to address growth and meet the region’s needs for master’s prepared nurse educators and administrators.

The Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.N.) began courses in fall 2011. The program provides registered nurses with advanced practice knowledge in the areas of nursing education and nursing administration. Nurses with this advanced knowledge enhance the delivery of health care in the community and throughout the region.

The ACEN also noted that one of the program’s strengths is its proximity with Ivy Tech Community College, located on the IU East campus, and near Reid Hospital & Health Care Services to support partnerships and access for student interaction and clinical practice.

“I am extremely pleased at the receipt of a full five-year initial accreditation status for the M.S.N. program. While the process was intense, the result of this accreditation speaks to the high quality of our M.S.N. program and the hard work of our graduate nursing faculty,” said Karen Clark, dean of the School of Nursing.
