The First-Year Seminar is here for YOU
All new students are required to take the First-Year Seminar (UCOL-U 101). The course is taught by enthusiastic faculty who are eager to help students succeed in their first semester at IU East.
The objectives of the First-Year Seminar are:
- To ease the transition to college by examining and developing self-management skills necessary for both academic success and student wellness.
- To enhance the essential academic skills of incoming students and prepare them for college level coursework.
- To gain an understanding of professionalism, faculty expectations, and academic integrity and to build an academic work ethic.
- To develop an understanding of academic and career planning that will guide them through a timely completion of their baccalaureate career.
- To gain an understanding of topics related to financial literacy.
- To develop a sense of social integration and belonging to the IU East campus and being a Red Wolf.
- To explore various aspects of human diversity.
Honors Program Alternative
If you are interested in and accepted into the Honors Program, the Freshman Honors Seminar (HON-H 100) will replace the UCOL-U 101 requirement.
