A student's first year is such an amazing time in their life. It's a time of making new friends, self-exploration, nervousness, uncertainty, and excitement. As a parent or family member you can help your student have a smoother semester by being aware of what your student is experiencing. Instead of doing for them, be aware of the various resources available so you can empower your student to stand on their own. One very important resource on campus that is dedicated to the overall success of the first year student is an office called Student Success.
The office of Student Success is the gateway to IU East for new students, connecting students to faculty, programs, and resources that support undergraduate learning. These programs and resources include success coaches, and academic advisors available to help students develop goals and a plan of study.
